1. Objective The word ―workability or workable concrete signifies much wider and deeper meaning than the other terminology ―consistency often used loosely for workability. Consistency is a general term to indicate the degree of fluidity or the degree of mobility. The factors helping concrete to have more lubricating effect to reduce internal friction for helping easy compaction are : (a) Water Content (b) Mix Proportions (c) Size of Aggregates (d) Shape of Aggregates (e) Surface Texture of Aggregate (f) Grading of Aggregate (g) Use of Admixtures. Slump test is the most commonly used method of measuring consistency of concrete which can be employed either in laboratory or at site of work. It is not a suitable method for very wet or very dry concrete. It does not measure all factors contributing to workability, nor it is always representative of the placeability of the concrete. It indicates the characteristic of concrete in addition to the slump value. If the concrete slumps evenly it is called true slump. If one half of the cone slides down, it is called shear slump. In case of a shear slump, the slump value is measured as the difference in height between the height of the mould and the average value of the subsidence. 2. Specification: This device is used to determine the workability and degree of compaction of fresh concrete after being placed in the forms. It can be used for in-situ measurements or inside test moulds and forms. Results can be correlated against the slump test.

The operation is very simple: insert the tester into the concrete up to the level of the disc, after 60 seconds, a measuring rod in lowered onto the surface of the concrete and the K-slump is read directly on a scale. The calibrated hollow tube has a dia. of 20 mm.

General Properties:
<sup>The J-ring test can be used to determine the passing ability of self-consolidating concrete. It is applicable for laboratory use in testing different concrete mixtures for passing ability or can be used in the field as a quality control test. It is typical to also perform a slump flow test with the J-ring test. This test is similar to the J-ring except the J-ring is not used. The difference between the results of the two tests provides an indicator of the passing ability of the concrete.Designed for durability, J-ring set includes a slump cone, J-ring with smooth or rebar rods and steel base plate with engraved positioning rings.

The J-Ring test is used for determining the passing ability, the flow spread and the flow time of self compacting concrete as the concrete flows through the JRing apparatus. The J-Ring narrow gap with ø18 mm x 16 smooth bars is manufactured from stainless steel. The Slump Cone is made from sheet steel protected against corrosion, with diameters; top 100 mm, base 200 mm and with a height of 300 mm. The Base plate is 900x900x3 mm square, made of stainless steel with engraved circles of 200 mm and 500 mm diameter conforming to EN 12350- 8. Compaction factor test is the workability test for concrete conducted in loboratory. the compaction factor is the ratio of weights of partically compacted to fully compacted concrete. it was devloped by road research lobortory in united kingdom and is used to determine the workability on concrete.

The compaction factor test is used for concrete which have low workability for which slump test is no suitable.
